baby photoshoot : my first try

back in november, a fellow mommy blogger who also happens to be my neighbour, Didee, asked if i'd like the opportunity to take photos of her newborn because she liked arwen's photos. i was honoured and nervous at the same time, because arwen's photos? that's not all my doing. they're all collective force of all the people in the house who knows how to operate the DSLRs. but i decided, it's now or never. i mean, how would i know if i'd suck at it if i didn't try it first, right? so i accepted the challenge. but when the day came and Didee delivered baby muhsein, i was busy with the new job and couldnt make time. she went back to her kampung for confinement and we had to postpone until she comes back to KL.

so, during the thaipusam holiday a couple of weeks back, i went to Didee's place and shot whatever i could do within the hour. man! taking of photos of new babies are tough! it's not like they can understand what you want them to do, right? i don't know how you guys (who takes photos of other people's babies professionally) do it, seriously. i seriously don't know what Didee expects and i told her not to expect awesomeness because what i can do is far from it.

i've done my best and here's the result. you be the judge of it. can i turn this into a living, possibly? or just forget about it?

i also made a slideshow as a surprise for the mom. (ok fine. this is not part of the package. it was sort of an afterthought because i couldnt find a blank CD laying around and had to ask my brother for a DVD and there were too much space and i didnt wanna waste it so i made a slideshow).

Thank you Didee, for the opportunity. i had a fun time. hope you like what i did.

Show The Love now has an FB page. can i be any more self-absorbed? NO! Like it or leave it.

So i just built an FB page for Show The Love. i've been wanting to do it since i first started the business but i thought, ah poyolah kot?. so i waited and waited for the right time. waited for it to grow a little bit more and gained a following. and to date, i've designed and sold almost 70 personalized posters (which would actually be more if i counted the last minute cancellations and the rejected options that i immediately trash after it's presented) i guess it's safe to build a fanpage of some sort. besides, FB is good for business, right?

updated 10/5 : it's only been 4 days and i already have 116 (refresh : oh wait.. 118!) fans yo! that's really something. i'm so overwhelmed. thanks everyone, for your interest and support!

trying my hands on online business

remember my last couple of posts where i was so adamant about starting a personalized poster design business online? well, i was shitting you people not. i am dead serious about it. thus i'm keeping another blog exclusively for that purpose. keeping more than one blog is hard core blogging man. and i've got 3, or 4 counting the photoblog. and here i go always whining about how i don't have enough time to juggle all my shit together.

well, anyway, if any of y'all are interested to make me some money, heh, please go here. and plus, designing things keeps me sane so you're probably doing the world a huge favour.

p/s : how do you make the blog badge for other blog friends to put up on their blog and give me free advertising?

the business of being born

remember this one i made for arwen?

poster for arwen

to be honest, i was kinda expecting some of you to inquire if i could do something like it for yourself. so yesterday, i got a call from ayis' cousin farahani to design one for her friend's newborn that she plans to give it as a birthday gift. i love being commissioned to take on creative projects like this. even it's as simple as making thank you tags. so a couple of hours and a few dozen SMSes regarding the details of the birth later (and i had to do the background check on the meaning behind the name and search for a lovely quote for the baby myself because i am resourceful like that), i came up with this:

armanposter

in between trying out which fonts suit best for this poster, i had this epiphany. now, i dont usually get that many 'epiphaneous' moments but when it comes, it's like 'fucking hell, why didn't i thought of that sooner!' so anyway, once i overcame that glorious moment of self-discovery, i extended my train of thoughts ... i should be making money doing this. because The Joker once said, "if you're good at something, never do it for free", but of course, the epiphany came a little too late because i did it for free, and furthermore, it's for family, of course it's for free.

anyway, here's a pitch. i'm thinking of starting this personalized baby birth poster design thing to a more professional level. considering there are many of my new friends here who are new mommies themselves, i figured ... this is the best place to throw in this business idea.

i think these personalized poster makes a great keepsake for new parents to give to their child, recollecting the moment of birth. it can be framed and adorn a nursery or kid's room. or, become a preamble in baby's photo album. it's also a great more heartfelt gift for friends or families to give to new parents for their newborn. because hampers, diaper cakes, toys and play mats are boring. and besides, the baby will grow out of them faster than you can spell boring. these posters though, last a lifetime (providing it's quality printing). and, as the product description says, it's PERSONALIZED. meaning, it's custom made. there's no two alike.

and not just a play typography and colours, you can opt to add in a photo of your child too. your can pick your own preferred colour combination, even if it's dare i say it, PINK. or keep it classic and simple in black and white, or you can have faith and leave it to my creativity. and i can have them printed and/or framed for you, or i can just email the artwork so you can do it yourself. i can make it a standard size a4 or a3, or if you already have a frame lying around somewhere (like a wedding gift that has not found its use or something), you can provide me with the required size so i can custom-size it. i can even design it as a tag for birthday party or cukur jambul favours. whatever. the requirements are as personalized as the posters are. i'm really flexible. and i mean that in a non-sexual way.

it's not too late, even if your child is already in college because it would make a great birthday gift. interested? email/YM me at unlished79[at]yahoo.com or unlished79[at]gmail.com for the costing and details. i can't exactly give you a standard price because it all depends on how you want it. can't wait to start designing some for you guys!
