kids these days...

ever since this post, i've been taking a lot of pictures of kids (mostly of ayis' cousins, nephews and nieces). so much that people might take me as a pedophile. no, i assure you i'm not. i just like taking pictures of kids. but unlike professional pedophiles, i feel awkward talking to kids. i dont know how and what to talk about. cupcakes? movies? cameras? life and all the problems that come along with it? so, without having good interactions with them, how could one possible capture them at their best? no pun intended.





but luckily, kids are just really good at being kids. so pure, innocent, moody, animated, easily amused, natural posers and complete camera whores. i don't even have to talk their language to get them to pose. here's a trick i learned on taking photos of kids : you take one photo, immediately show them the photo you've taken on your LDC (it is annoying when they're bound to do this EVERY DAMN TIME you take a picture, but just deal with it) and watch how they grow to become professional models within just a few shots. and then, believe you me they wont stop posing and asking to look at the LCD and trying another pose to see if they can try to be any cuter than the last pose, and continue to do this until you've run out of space in your memory card, or battery, or sanity.







i don't know why people say that its hard to take photos of pets and children. they're a lot easier than picky, whiny adults. yes, kids and pets require a lot of patience, i mean, putting up with their cuteness is hard work. really. but i think the best thing about taking photos of kids and pets is that they don't really care if they look goofy in the picture, or that their hair is not in place, or that they're missing two front teeth, or that their face is covered with food or their own drool, or worry if their double chin is visible (i'm talking about me) .. well, at least not till they're in their 20s and start to crunch up their faces flipping through old photographs.







you can bet that my flickr page will someday be filled with photos of my unborn kids. but for now, i'm just having fun taking photos of other people's bundles of joy ... practicing, leading up to that time.
