pregnancy brain all the other stuff

it's hard to imagine the baby went from looking like this :

to looking more like a squished up baby (without the penis and the other extra appendages that comes with the penis) like this :

albeit the earlier one was much more annoying than the latter. small as a raisin as it was, it gave me an unbelievably hard time with the constant puking and nausea, which now seems like a distant memory.

now .. it's a whole different set of annoyance. pregnancy brain for one. short-term memory loss comes with the territory. probably due to the lack of oxygen being carried up to the brain. studies have shown that the 3-lbs noggin actually shrinks. but thank god, in my line of work, i can simply click undo, or delete, as many times as i want to when shit happens. can you imagine if i work in a bank? keying in people's account numbers and money all day? padan muka.

and i've learnt the hard way that pregnant women shouldn't be operating potentially hazardous household equipment. like the iron for example. so far, since my pregnancy, i've burnt the sleeve of a new dress, the new ironing board, and this morning, my husband called me to tell me that i've forgotten to switch off the iron after ironing his shirts last night. the iron was on while we were sleeping, for the whole 8 hours. we're lucky that nothing burned down or blew up.

the other annoyance that comes with 3rd trimester is sciatica. oh my god, the pain is sometimes so unbearable that have sent me crying a few times trying to get out of bed or the car. i've told this to a doctor at my last checkup last week. he was not my normal obgyn, but still a doctor nonetheless. besides getting increasingly frequent and stronger braxton-hicks contractions, a little too much too soon, i also pointed out my sciatic nerve pain. and then, unexpectedly, he gave me this blank stare as if he has never heard of such nerve in the human anatomy in all of his studies before. actually, he's probably never heard of such nerve because he asked me "sorry? what nerve? sakit camner tu? cuba explain ... "

pppfbt.

and so i went on an on explaining the said pain to him. practically schooling him about sciatic nerves. came to the point that i totally disregard proper, politically correct anatomical terms. instead of saying buttocks .. or rear end .. or cheeks, i simply said in the brutest, rudest way i can muster ... SAKIT URAT BONTOT. and then i saw this epiphany illuminating from above his dense head accompanied by a chorus of angles. or as oprah would say ... an a-ha moment.

and then he asked me if i've experienced this 'pain' before that day.. and i told him a month ago, it was the nerve on my left bontot, and today it's on my right. and he continued to interview me about this pain.. coz apparently it's all new to him. he asked if the last time i felt this 'pain', was i pregnant? i was like, yes, A MONTH ago i was pregnant. 6 months pregnant to be exact, if you haven't yet notice my bulging tummy and the way that i waddled into your room just now, holding my tummy, and the fact that i actually know the term 'braxton-hicks' and know when to use it. and if that's all rather dubious to you, i've got an ultrasound of my baby girl to prove it.. with her cheeseburger and all.

ok, no, i didn't actually said all that out loud. but i wish i had. im such a pussy.

and then he questioned me again ... what did i do the last time this 'pain' happened? i told him, i got my mom to massage the bloody nerve. this was what he said to me ... "then, this time you have to get your mom to massage the other cheek lah pulak"

yes, thank you, brilliant doctor. and for that, i paid RM30 for consultation. which was so wrong by the way, coz i was the one who was actually teaching him something.

ppfbt.

p/s : on a totally unrelated note, i think the baby likes durian. i had a craving and ayis brought home some durians last night. and she can't seem to sit still the whole night. now, i'm having rib sores and cramps and nerve pains. or perhaps she didn't like it.
