arwen was down with fever yesterday. i was down with flu too. so thinking it was impossible for one sick baby to take care of another sick baby, my mom took leave as well.
my husband and i got up at 2.30 am on tuesday morning to a rather quite baby. she only made grunting noises demanding to be lift up from her cot. usually, she'll be crying but i knew she had flu so i figured she was not up for all that crying business. so i lift her up and felt that she's a bit warm so i asked my husband for the ear thermometer. took a reading and it was 38.8° and then i took another reading, because i dont believe in first readings and it was 38.7°. ok, so i, by the power vested in me for being the elder sister to a doctor, confidently diagnosed that she's having a fever. got my husband to run down to the fridge and get her the meds and then i fed her some milk. after that she stayed up crying like mad for almost an hour. thank you, arwen.
finally, at almost 4 am, she fell asleep next to me. but not for long though, coz at 7 she was up again and crying. no sleep + no brain function = no work for me. at 7.30, my mom stormed into our room, took her and gave me some time to catch some sleep. so i did but at 9 am, i called the office telling them that my baby is sick and i am taking time off to take care of her. deadlines be damned.
one of the best things about arwen is that, when she's sick she's not really that cranky. i mean she cries and whines and throws toys about, but she's relatively easy to take care of. we gave her meds every 8 hours and she naps longer than she usually do. but otherwise, she's up being the active self climbing and crawling over things and clapping and chewing off the remote control and practising standing up by herself and pooping 4 times a day and pulling everybody's hair and grabbing spectacles and asking to be carried around and blabbering and admiring the cats from afar - her usual stuff.
at night, she went to sleep by herself and woke up at 2.30, playing in her cot for a while before she asked to be let out and fed, and after that, she slept all the way till 7.45 this morning into a happier, and most importantly not-so-sick baby.
the husband and i on the other hand, just another couple of big babies!
