they say, or rather, i've been told that babies/kids are able to see things that are beyond our threshold. things that we can't see with the naked eye. things that are, well, beyond this realm. question to you, dear readers, especially parents, what do you do when you are in that situation when you feel, or know in your guts that your child is seeing things? not up to the point that she/he is crying to no end, or become feverish later. just that moment when you think she saw some'thing'.
like for instance. last sunday, while my mother-in-law is in town and staying at Kampung Warisan, we went over there to hang out with her and have dinner. and we went home at around 9ish pm. ayis carried arwen all the way to the parking lot because i can't do it anymore (she's 9.7kg now). ayis and arwen walked in front, and i was walking behind them. arwen was faced towards me. get the picture? so anyway, the elevator door pinged and we went in. it was just the three of us. ayis and arwen was still in front and i was at the back of them, talking and making faces to arwen to make her laugh when suddenly, her attention was diverted towards the back corner of the elevator. she stared long and hard. and i, upon watching too many chinese and japanese horror movies, started to have scenes of elevator ghosts reeling in my mind. so i continued talking and making faces to arwen so she'd look at me again.
the elevator door pinged again and we rushed out. i was practically pushing ayis out. and on the way towards the car, arwen was still looking at something at the back of me. and then she was looking everywhere, the ceiling, the walls, everywhere. and apparently, ayis told me last night when i finally told him about this event, that she hung on real tight on his neck. but of course, i didnt want to say anything to ayis until probably the next day for fear that it would reveal itself. orang tua kata, jangan tegur.
once we reached the car, ayis handed arwen over to me and i started to whisper whatever ayat i could muster in her ear. i didn't recite them out loud because i didn't want ayis to get curious and ask me where i'd have to explain and indirectly 'tegur' or wonder if his wife has totally lost it. in the car, i smelled something sweet. something like daun pandan and bunga mawar. i know my husband only has that glade's car freshener and i swear it does not smell like bunga rampai. of course, i didnt say a thing about that too, only continued observing arwen and reciting ayats in her ear.
i don't normally think about the supernatural. or keep whatever charms, petua, voodoo or juju my mom would remind me to practice. like having something sharp in my bag or on my person when i was pregnant. or raut my tapak kaki and then raut it on her face while reciting the selawat before we head out the door. or immediately reciting the selawat, and ayat 4 Kul when i feel that something's wrong. and she would normally get in my case for not listening to her when something really did happen. but luckily nothing bad happened that day. and nothing followed us home.
but if you were me, what would you do? what are your jujus when it comes to 'protecting' your child against things unseen?

read my pak anjagn blogs..he can see'ghost'
ada entry ada sorang budak tu main jelir lidah (ejek2) kat 'hantu'
i cant read his blog at night..nanti terbayang ada "benda" duk baca blog sekali..
scary laio
Ziyyad pun selalu pandang2 kat satu arah/coner siap lambai bye-bye and said bye-bye...serammmm.
eee.. seram. my friend pun bgtau anak dia siap tunjuk2 gelak2 tetiba. tu yg buat i lagi paranoid weh.
Kampung Warisan is in setiawangsa right?
That place is a bit "keras"
Am not saying this to scare you or anything. I come from a long line of family who apparently nak tak nak have "radars" to these things. I've passed by there a couple of times (used to live in Wangsa Maju..but due to bad vibes...we moved)
No fun either have "radars" (dont see but sense and feel). I tend to ignore but think that I am scared more of Allah swt than of them (petua arwah atuk bila mengubat)
I know my girls see things when they were babies *usually belum pandai cakap* and they cling on like there is no tomorrow. Sometimes you can even tell, those things are jenis yg "baik" or "nakal". A'aesyah had an experience where she stared non stop at the front seat of the car at the North South bound highway near Pagoh. And Aliya noticed A'aesyah did the same like Arwen did "then she was looking everywhere.." suddenly terpacul dari mulut 9 y.o Aliya "Adik boleh nampak malaikat ke ma?"
Just read the 4Kul and deep in your heart seek Allah swt protection. Be strong. If you go out after magrib or come home after twelve, wash your feet outside before you go in the house.
If you sense there is presence out of spite sometimes I say "Aku tak kacau kau (tak jemput kau masuk) jadi secara baik, sila keluar" in a strong tone. Oh..my arwah atuk says, yang dijemput masuk itulah yang akan duduk kat situ lama2. Tak jemput diaorang akan keluar.
Well I pray that my girls dont "receive" these gifts from my side. You have a different view of the world altogether.
...and I NEVER GO IN THE ELEVATOR ALONE because I know I am not.
tp kan babe, i still remember when i was 5 cmtu..i pnh nmpk benda2 ni. kt bilik air, luar umah & ms tgh demam. xtau nk describe mcmane..tp yg paling scary ms kat bilik air umah lama, benda tu mata dia merah, muka scary..nw da xnmpk lg. sib baik..
mel. you're scaring me lagi adalah. heheh. luckily i tak penah nampak benda2 camtu. tak nak mintak nampak pun.. selisih!
QM : i'm going back there again today after work. since my MIL is here till next week. i pray nothing like that will happen again to arwen. (or me. i'm chicken shit when it comes to things i dont know)
nasib baik arwen tak nangis ey?
mcm i dulu, i mintak tlg my grandma. die genggam jintan hitam, garam kasar dgn apetah lg,baca2 sket ayat al-quran then baling kat serata pelosok dlm rumah. lg satu die bg air yg die bace surah apetah utk aidan minum, mandi & sapu kat bhgn muke. sbb mase aidan kecik, die kuat nangis sgt2! and die pon suke je pandang kat hujung2 dinding lama & tetiba die nangis sekuat hati sampai merah2 smbl pejam mata rapat2..bende ni slalu jadi,nak2 time bulan penuh. sumpah tak tipu.
scary gak..tapi as for me, bila mlm..tak kira dari mana , nak masuk kereta atau keluar kereta, make sure baca ayat apa2 yg patut..tuh je amalannya..tapi tang bau wangi tuh...huiisshhhhh..tatutttt..
QM:: eii takut baca ur cerita..
my pak anjang see dead people kat jirat cina
boleh tak mulut dia kata
"uih ramainya orang atas kubur ni"
and we see nothing
boleh tak rasa macam nak pengsan lalu kat jirat cina everytime balik rumah.
p/s::puh kiri puh kanan la lepas ni..tumpang lalu tok, cucu tumpang jalan je..hahaha
meremang kejap bulu tengkuk i...
-mama emma®-
Rasanya dia orang memang nampak. Apa tah orang kata, budak-budak yang tak berdosa ni memang dibuka hijabnya <-- betul ke tidak tak tahu.
I pernah drive pergi rumah my cousin, sampai rumah dia maghrib. My nephew, Afiq waktu tu umur 4 thn, loncat-loncat sambut I sampai, lepas tu berhenti loncat, scrutinize mata tengok arah I. Lepas tu dia cakap, "Makchaq datang bawa kawan mana tu?" Masa tu I seorang, kat jalan tak ada siapa. Nak buat gelabah kang dia menjelma ke apa, tolak budak tu masuk dalam, "mana ada orang lain tu, jom masuk..."
This post kinda aroused my curiosity so I went searching through the interwebz trying to find for info. Apparently, many people also agree that babies see things we don't (especially when they stare at the same spot for a long time and suddenly smile or coo). While some say they are seeing ghosts, others say its a dead relative or guardian angel. I don't know lah.
But, babies also apparently like to stare at contrasts, patterns and lines.
So perhaps the elevator had some interesting light/shadow or something?
And if you want to convince yourself everything is okay, just read this.
We're just evolved to be over-cautious hahaha. Hope all will be well, try not to lose sleep over it ;)
oojie : kalau arwen cam tu pun i gi ikhtiar biarpun kadang2 tak percaya. tapi kalau dah lain macam, jauh dr research kat google, kita pun fikir lain nyer kan?
arin : memang takut. but i keep in my mind my dad pesan, don't ever tegur especially tang bau-bauan at night. so diamkan ajelah.
mama emma : for me, the paranoia started when one of my colleagues told this story about his son pointing and laughing and jari telunjuk dia cam follow benda tu.
zana : tu yang i lagi takut, if the kid says something about it. sekarang arwen just boleh look and point, belum tegur-tegur lagi. kalau boleh tegur, i yang nangis and panic, i think.
su-yin : thanks babe, kinda helps me to think i'm not crazy afterall. but i know that the elevator was as plain as my face early in the morning. nothing that would catch her interest. the elevator looks like a sauna basically and smells like one too.no mirrors, just one light, no patters save for the wood paneling, and thats about it. but then again, you're right, it's just probably my over-cautious evolved mind (:p) playing tricks because that's what i want to believe.
Maybe it was the contrasting wood paneling? I don't know... *muka bodoh*
Whatever it is, I guess it's better to tell yourself it's something you shouldn't worry about, no? Whatever helps you sleep right? (in my case, alcohol :P)
But how was your visit today?
takutnyer....
I remembered masa dalam pantang , dekat nak masuk bulan posa nie..ada 2-3 nights Aisya cried non stop - lepas menangis 2-3 jam, penat, die tidur sendiri. I called my Uncle - dia kata nak masuk bulan posa, so hantu-hantau tak sempat balik, terikat kat man adier check point. So, my uncle baca ayat yasin and simbah keliling rumah, then baru Aisya no problem sleeping dah after tuh. Tapi bila dengar pung, dah naik bulu roma wei....gerun!!!!
lisha , mmg diorg nampak. my experience anak i yg 1st and 2nd mmg blh nampak, the 3rd not sure tp sometime dia suka stare kat tpt yg pelik2. FYI my husband pun mmg gifted utk tgk benda2 ni, so bila i nampak budak2 lain mcm je i would siku him, pastu pandai la dia nak buat apa.
masa rumah lama kat melawati tu mmg banyak sgt gangguan, harris penakut sikit so dia selalu terperanjat n nangis, selalu la menangis tunjuk2 ada hantu. pernah sekali husband takde rumah, i was pregnant with idlan dia tunjuk bawah kerusi, muka dia dah pucat gila, baca apa2 ayat tak jadi so what i did lepas dah baca mcm2 i ambik penyapu i buat mcm halau kat tpt yg dia tunjuk tu sambil marah2.hehhehe.. kena tunjuk berani, hantu takut org berani.
as for idlan dia berani gila. tgh malam boleh dia kejut bg tau ada hantu, just imagine. my hubby ada dia kata hantu tu separuh kat dlm rumah separuh kat luar rumah, rambut panjang. abah dia tanya idlan takut ke, selamba dia kata tak. kadang2 tgh main kat hall dia berhenti tgk dapur area, tanya kenapa dia kata ada hantu. so tanya dia balik dia kacau idlan ke? idlan cakap dia tengok je. pastu selalunya i would say jgn kacau ye, kita tak kacau awak, awak jgn kacau kita. pastu hantu tu hilang.
selalu kalau travel kalau kita ada rasa semacam tu biasa i would attract them ngan benda lain, lalu area jerat cina tunjuk area opposite nya, cuba alih perhatian dia. pastu dlm kete and handphone mmg simpan bacaan quraan, bila rasa semacam je mainkan so far tu yg paling mujarab.
su-yin : the visit was okay. a bit dramatic still coz her gum was bleeding but that's a different story. i still cant help thinking about the 'thing' though, so i kept a watch on the baby in case she saw something. in the elevator, we tried whatever it took to not let her attention stray. we slept okay, nevertheless. heh.
zie : takut, kan? kita tak tau benda2 ni semua. ada one night tu, my hubby gi rearrange our bedroom furniture so taruk her cot in between the window and our bed. my mom dah pesan, takmo dengar cakap. kata ngarut lah, kurafat lah apa lah. malam tu tiba je midnight, tetiba arwen bangun nangis bagai nak rak sampai 2 jam. my parents kata tingkap tu tempat dia 'bertenggek'. so anyway, lepas tu, my dad sapu & kasi dia minum air yassin and all that. baru dia. terus letak her cot the other side.
kak zaliza! gila takut weh reading your stories. tetiba cam menyesal bukak citer ni hehe. thanks for the tips. will keep quran recitations in my phone from now on.
